Call of duty Buffer overrun detected?

I just installed call of duty and whenever I go to open either single player or multiplayer a message comes up saying Buffer overrun detected! and that the game is corrupted of something. I don't know much about computers and when I went to look for help on other sights, they all talk about video cards and other stuff I know nothing about. Could someone please give an explanation of how to fix this problem using limited computer talk! Thanks!
