Can they force me to pay to cancel?

I have a hosting and domain subscription with a UK based hosting company, however, I wanted to move provider. Unfortunately by the time I got round to it I had overrun the year contract. I tried to cancel the subscription but to do so I had to resubscribe to another year of hosting and domain at �32.99... Is this legal?
